ARTIFICIAL REEF PROJECT

New partnership for Artificial Reef project!

23/05/2019

New partnership with Rustic Pathways!

The project will develop an artificial reef, in the form of Reef Balls, to complement our sustainable management activities with Boma Subutuni village on mainland Tanzania. We’ll be working with community members and international students to construct and deploy Reef Balls in an area determined by the community and Mwambao. The coastline has been greatly affected by illegal dynamite fishing, a very destructive practice on the coast of Tanzania over the last decade, and artificial reefs should allow an opportunity for reefs to re-establish and offer a refuge for marine life.

This will be the second Reef Ball project in Africa, we carried out the first in Jambiani, Zanzibar alongside Marine Cultures and Honey Hollow Foundation in 2015.
