With knowledge comes power, and with power comes great responsibility.
“We shouldn’t just respect the hotels and investors, we need to support the NGOs and experts. We don’t see it straight away, but the knowledge and effort given will have more impact on our lives. It’s more sustainable. What we are doing with NGOs is more valuable than hotels, with knowledge and effort is more value.” Juma Abdalla from Pongwe, Unguja, Zanzibar.
Last week in Pongwe village we analysed the octopus catch data they have been collecting over the last 8 months. Collecting data is one thing, but understanding and interpreting data allows for progression, communication, confidence and pride IN the work that’s being carried out, not to mention motivation for the months to come.
Mwambao are working with communities to adapt fishing practices for a more sustainable approach for future generations.
