SWIOfish*. Mwambao has been working closely with the Department of Fisheries Development, Zanzibar on two different SWIOfish-funded projects.

We have taken part in the consultancy (with MRAG) to draft management plans for three key fisheries – octopus, small pelagic and reef-fish. We have learned a lot during this exercise.

Secondly, we are part of a team with Agrotec to train Department of Fisheries staff in implementing reef closures for octopus. We have selected two new villages (one in Pemba and one in Unguja) for this work.

*SWIOfish is the World Bank funded ‘South-west Indian Ocean Fisheries Governance and Shared Growth Project’ for the Africa region with the aim to improve the management effectiveness of selected priority fisheries at the regional, national and community level.
